Floral Photography with my Iphone

I love taking photos with my iphone. Come to think of it, I haven't touched my digital camera in years. It's never been easier to take beautiful pictures when the mood strikes. Whether I'm taking a walk, riding my bike or traveling to foreign countries, I always have my iphone with me. One of my favorite things to take pictures of are flowers. I always find amazing things in the plant kindgom. The colors, textures and shapes never fail to amaze me.

I can't remember exactly when I started to become interested in taking pictures of flowers and plants. I am terrible at taking care of plants in my house and I can't seem to keep them alive no matter what. It's probably because I don't have the patience for it, but my plants always tend to commit suicide on me. However seeing them anywhere outside my home is always a treat.

I read somewhere that there are around 270,000 varieties of flowers that are documented by scientists. Photographing flowers have become somewhat of a hobby for me and I tend to continue as long as I can. My iphone makes it that much easier!

I've always loved taking pictures of flowers and plants and I still do. One big difference is that these days I find myself taking lots of closeup shots. When I do this, I see details that I never noticed before.

The subtle color changes, the textures of the petals and a small drop of water ready to fall off the edge. I like how the light reflects off the flower petals. Taking pictures at different times of the day results in different results as well.

One day I went to visit a botanical garden outside the city. It was a huge place with lots of space to walk around. I think I spent a couple of hours just walking around and snapping away at everything I wanted to capture on camera.

Towards the end of my visit I found a green house on the far end of the garden. I didn't find much that was interesting inside except for this large urn that I found in the corner.

I like to experiment with my photos because too many close-up shots can get boring. I found these flowers floating on the water in this large urn in the middle of a botanical garden. I thought it looked good taken from directly above. This was one of the few pictures that isn't a close up.

I think I took about two dozen shots of random things in the green house including the floating petals in the urn. This is a close up shot of one of the red flowers in the urn. You can see more of the details and varying shades of red.

It's only when it's this close that you can actually see the small intricate details of the flower. I also find something almost sensual about flowers and plants in general.

In Japan we have four distinct seasons and each season brings with it their own flowers. We have the cherry blossom season in spring, hydrangeas during rainy season, sunflowers in the summer and pretty much nothing in the winter.

Azaleas are one of my favorite flowers to photograph because they are difficult for me. I still cannot seem to get the perfect picture of azaleas.
