A Taste of the Islands

Updated on December 29, 2014

Memories of Hawaii

I live on the 8th floor of a small apartment building in one of the residential districts of Tokyo. It's a nice place that I find quite comfortable with a nice balcony in the back that overlooks a small park. Having said that, the balcony is only used for a couple of months out of the entire year mostly in the short spring and fall months. The rest of the year, it's either too rainy, too hot or just too cold to be sitting outside. On days like these, I wish I could somehow teleport myself back to Hawaii where I lived for 20 years.

Obviously that's not possible and frankly, I can't afford to fly back so often. So I like to have little reminders of Hawaii littered throughout my home-a couple of Hawaiian posters above my bed and a Hawaiian quilt pillow on my sofa-just to name a few. And every now and then, I'd like to treat myself to a plate of Hawaiian pancakes.

Hawaiian Sun Pancake Mixes

Hawaiian Sun is a well-known brand known for their tropical juices and macadamia nut chocolates. Recently they've added some tropical-flavored pancake mixes to their line up so I decided to try them out. They have a few different flavors and they're all good with a distinctive Hawaiian flavor.

On this particular day, I made myself a small batch of the Lilikoi Passion Fruit Pancakes. These mixes have everything in them already so all you need to do is to add some water. My pancakes were a breeze to make and I they were ready on my plate in just a few minutes. The sweet smell of passion fruit was intoxicating to say the least. I poured some coconut syrup on them and I could hardly contain myself. As I took my first bite, I was instantly transported back to the islands that I could almost hear the waves on the beaches of Waikiki.

The Best Hawaiian Pancake Mix

I am more than excited to try the other flavors but for now, I am more than happy with the Lilikoi flavored ones. I recommend that you pair these with some Hawaiian coconut syrup to complete your trip to the Hawaiian islands. Seriously, coconut syrup is the only way to go with these pancakes because the flavors complement each other perfectly. If you like pancakes or just want to escape to the Hawaiian islands for just a little while, you owe it to yourself to try these amazing pancakes from Hawaiian Sun.

Which pancake would you like to try the most?
